The High Weald Academy

Interim Principal: Caroline Longhurst

Situated in Cranbrook, The High Weald Academy is an exciting and innovative 11-18 school which welcomes students of all abilities and aims to provide them with the skills and qualifications needed to turn them into confident and successful citizens. In a rapidly changing world the Academy is committed to the relentless pursuit of excellence and the maintenance of the highest possible standards in both academic achievement and personal behaviour.

We believe that every child has the right to an outstanding education. Our vision is encapsulated in our motto, ‘Aspiration, Achievement, Ambition’.  We are a small rural school serving the local rural community and life in the academy is underpinned by our PRIDE values:

  • P – Personal Excellence
  • R – Respect and Friendship
  • I – Inspiration
  • D – Determination and Courage
  • E – Equality

The academy provides a caring and supportive environment in which students are encouraged to set themselves challenging targets which are monitored on a regular basis. Our aim is to offer every student a personalised approach to learning that meets their individual interests and abilities. Those who have additional educational needs are supported by the academy’s inclusion team while a widespread programme of activities is designed to ensure that those who are academically more able have an additional level of challenge and are fully stretched.  Some of our most able students are able to transfer to Cranbrook School in year 9.

As a Specialist Sports College the academy recognises the power of sport to transform learning and raise self esteem. The sports leadership programme allows all students to develop their self-confidence by working with younger students and partner primary schools.

As a rural school the Farm is a key part of life here in High Weald.  The students take full responsibility for the farm working with the farm manager.  They win a huge array of prizes and awards for their outstanding work with the farm’s cows, pigs and sheep.  This is a fully working farm which is used to support learning across the curriculum and is a reflection of our rural heritage.

The strength of The High Weald Academy is based around its commitment to working in partnership with others, including local primary and secondary schools and members of the Brook Learning Trust. Above all the Academy recognises that no student can be successful without support and encouragement from both school and home and the academy’s open door policy allows any concerns to be addressed quickly and effectively.
