A New School Year Begins...
It has been wonderful to begin this academic year by fully reopening our academies and it has been a pleasure to witness the return of our students after such a long time.
The work of all of our staff this term will centre around the education and well-being of our students as they adjust to new school routines and we are fully committed to ensuring the safety of our school community on site. Details of our response to Covid-19 and the measures we have in place can be found here and on our academy websites.
The beginning of term sees some other changes within the Trust. After 22 years of dedication to our schools and eight years as Chair of the Board of Brook Learning Trust, Ian Daker stepped down from his position as Chair in the summer. We are however delighted that he will remain with us a Member and continue to offer his support to our three academies. Ian was involved in the inception of the Trust and led the transition from a single, stand-alone academy to the Multi Academy Trust we have grown to become today. His years of dedicated service to the students, staff and families associated with BLT have helped to shape the values which underpin the way in which we operate, and set the vision we continue to work towards in supporting all of our students to thrive and succeed.
We are pleased to announce that Jeanette Batten has taken over the role of Chair of the Trust. Jeanette is a serving Trustee and has previously held the roles of Vice-Chair of The High Weald Academy Interim Advisory Board and Chair of the Trust’s Audit and Risk Committee.
It is also with regret that we announce that our CEO, Carol Morris, took the difficult decision to resign from her post with effect from 31 August 2020, in order to spend more time with her family. Carol has been with the Trust since 2012 and took the role of CEO in 2016. She has been a source of inspiration to many and the driving force behind the work of the leadership teams across the Trust. Throughout her time, Carol provided high quality strategic leadership and ensured that our focus remained on providing the very best for our students and staff. Carol provided a strong moral compass to underpin all decisions and embodied the Trust’s vision and values.
We are pleased to confirm that Nicola Taylor, currently our Education Director, has accepted the position of Interim CEO from September 2020 and the Trust Board are working to appoint a permanent CEO in due course.
We thank both Ian and Carol for the many years of dedication, hard work and leadership that they have provided for BLT.
BLT is a tight knit community of individuals who have always risen to the challenge of responding to change, united by the values which reinforce our shared identify. We are excited about our future, as together we continue to grow and develop.
Finally, we would like to use this opportunity to thank our academy communities for their continued and much valued support. We shall, collectively, look forward to a safe and successful academic year ahead of us, where every child can be the best they can be. Our children only get one chance in their education and it is our responsibility to provide the very best for them - despite the Covid–19 challenges!
